Compatibility: This module is fully compatible with the 3500 system, providing a convenient and economical solution for installing sensor systems in hazardous areas.

Installation and maintenance

Installation position: The 3500/70M I/O module with internal barriers is installed in a dedicated monitor I/O module. These barrier modules occupy a position on a standard 19 inch rack and increase the rack depth by approximately 50 millimeters (2 inches) to provide a physical separation of 50 millimeters between safe and hazardous area field wiring.

Maintenance: During maintenance, it is necessary to consider the location of the I/O module to ensure easy access to it.

Limitations and Precautions

Location limitation: I/O modules with internal barriers cannot use monitors containing three module redundancy (TMR), because connecting sensors to multiple I/O module inputs will damage the integrity of intrinsically safe systems.

Grounding requirements: The rack containing any internal barrier module must have a 3500/04-01 IS grounding module to provide an intrinsic safe grounding connection for the barrier module.
